Suspected assassins yesterday morning struck at a residence of a land speculator (names withheld) in Olorunsogo area of Ibadan, Oyo State capital, killing his mother and wife in anger for allegedly missing him.
Sources said the assassins stormed the eight-room bungalow of the land speculator around 3.00a.m and demanded for him.
As gathered, when they could not find him, they reportedly killed his wife, thinking that the man hid somewhere in the house. They were said to have thought that their action might provoke the land speculator to come out of his hiding.
Daily Sun gathered that his mother was also killed after she reportedly came out of her room as a result of the loud cries of her son’s wife and the commotion in the house. The assassins were said to have thereafter left without picking any item.
Efforts at getting the names of the deceased were unsuccessful as emotion was still high in the house as at the time of filing this report. But sources revealed that the assassins killed them in anger for missing their target,the land speculator.
One of the sources said the land speculator was at a nearby mosque,observing vigil when the assassins invaded the house.
The man was, however, shielded from talking to journalists by family members, who were already making preparations for the burial of the two women.
Police from a nearby Ogbere Divisional Headquarters of the Nigeria Police visited the scene of the incident. A source at the division said investigations had commenced on the incident.
