Armed robbers on Thursday evening killed at least six persons in a bank robbery in Modakeke, headquarters of Ife East Area office of Osun State.
Police Public Relations Officer for the state Police Command, Mrs. Folashade Odoro confirmed that six persons, who were customers of the Wema Bank, were shot dead by the armed robbers during the robbery operation.
A resident of the town told our correspondent that lifeless bodies of the deceased were taken to the palace of the tradition ruler of the town, Oba Francis Adedoyin as the town was soaked with tension over the incident.
None of the armed robbers was arrested as they all escaped despite the timely arrival of police at the bank.
The PPRO stated that the police chased the armed robbers to the outskirts of the town before they escaped, saying: “Men of the Nigeria Police Force are still in search of the robbers.”
